
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Victor Korolov, aged 85. He passed away June 18, 2024 in Southfield, Michigan. Born, June 10, 1939, in Leningrad, Russia. He is pre-deceased by his son Pyotr, his parents Vassily and Vera, and his former wife Olga. Survived by his wife Cynthia Korolov (Porter), daughter Maria Korolov and sons Paul (Natasha) Korolov and Constantine (Danielle) Korolov. Also, grand children Anastasia Korolov, Basil Korolov Trombly, Ruslana and Lara Korolov. And, stepdaughters Deborah (Kenneth) Compton and Michele (Anthony) Lennox. He leaves behind his extended family, Serafima Trebko, Kate Aronstein, Roman (Kristy) Aronstein, Violeta Aronstein, Peter Korolov, Alex Korolov, Kate Korolov and Radha Grip.
Victor was proud to earn a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering at Syracuse University in New York. In Russia, he began his higher education in 1956 at the Mechanical Institute of Leningrad with graduate work at the Moscow Aviation Institute. His major was in Rocket Propulsion Systems (i.e. Rocket Science). He practiced as an instructor at the Shipbuilding College in Leningrad followed by Assistant Professor at the Electrotechnical Institute, Leningrad. After moving to the U.S. he advanced his teaching career as an Adjunct Professor at SUNY College of Technology of Utica, NY followed by Utica College. He progressed to the highest level of engineering education at Syracuse University starting in 1982 with a specialty in Robotics and Control. He ended his teaching career at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI in 1992.
Victor had a love for music and he played acoustic guitar. He created a collection of his favorite Russian songs, in which he sang and recorded at home. In his later years he developed a proficiency and love for sailing upon the Great Lakes in Michigan with his wife Cynthia. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and owned both standard and side-car rigs. His vast interests included spending time fabricating parts in his home based machine shop. Victor was a voracious reader of adventure and science fiction novels. He had an extensive collection of books in both English and Russian. Despite his fondness for peace and quiet, Victor expressed a delightful and unexpected sense of humor. He often shared entertaining stories and anecdotes from Russian traditions and his personal life.
Victor's family has entrusted his care to Fisher Funeral Home of Redford Twp. There will be no funeral service. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
