Tyrone Ervin Knox Sr. was born the eldest child from the union of Samuel J. Knox and Mary C. Knox (Griffin) in Detroit, Michigan on April 2, 1956.
Tyrone Sr. graduated from Western High School in 1974. As a youth, he was an avid music lover, even playing the tenor saxophone in jam sessions with friends. One year later, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Knox (Bradley). Their union brought forth daughter Tamika (1975), and son Tyrone Jr. (1979).
Tyrone Sr. worked at Port Huron Paper Company (later named IPMC) from 1975 until the mill closed in November 2003, just shy of his 30-year tenure. Subsequently, he worked at both Awrey and Aunt Mille’s bakeries before ending his working career as a part-timer at Avis Car Rental at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
Tyrone Sr. went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of October 16, 2024, in the presence of his son at Beaumont (Corewell Health) Hospital in Dearborn after a brave long battle with cancer. He is now reunited with the love of his life, Patricia, who preceded him in death after her own battle with cancer in 2017.
Tyrone Sr. will be remembered for his vast music collection (album, cassette, CD), VHS movie collection, and his tendency to give the best Christmas presents to family and dear friends. His love for music will continue in the lives of his children and other family members who remember him blasting classic pop, soul, and R&B through his home stereo system and in his car during long relaxing drives.
He leaves behind daughter Tamika Knox, son Tyrone Knox Jr., grandson Quentin Knox, sister Melissa Knox, half-brother Joe Lampkins, his aunt and uncle Ethel and Monroe Moody, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Also preceding his departure were his parents Samuel & Mary Knox, and his brother Larry Knox.
