Obituary For Thomas P. Coughlin

Thomas P. Coughlin

Tommy, as he was known, was born in Cerrick beg, county Waterford, Ireland on March 15, 1922.

Tommy was the beloved husband of “his bride,” the late Eva Coughlin. He was the loving father of Kelly Clem and Tim (Jill) Coughlin, and he was the beloved grandfather of five grandchildren, Gina and Emily Clem, and Brendan, Ryan and Alex Coughlin. Tommy also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. Tommy was preceded in death by his siblings, Peter Coughlin, Eileen Wright and John Coughlin.

In 1926, at the age of four, he immigrated to the USA with his mother and siblings. Tommy grew up in the Vernor Hwy-Springwells area of Detroit. He was a proud World War II Navy veteran, serving from 1942–1946 in the Pacific Theatre. He spent his career as a locomotive engineer for Conrail and raised his family in Dearborn.

Tommy was a true Irishman…always a big smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. He was always quick with a limerick or ditty. He will be dearly missed.

Tommy, along with the late Eva, will be interred at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.

A memorial service will be held at Fisher Funeral Home, Redford on Saturday, January 18, 2025, 12pm - 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Love a Michigan Vet Project or Friends for Animals Metro Detroit.
