Obituary For Simmie L. Flournoy

Simmie Lee Flournoy

August 30, 1941 - April 11, 2025

A beloved son, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and community member, Simmie lived a life marked by kindness, strength, and dignity.

Born on August 30, 1941 in Macon, GA to the late Jack and Caledonia Flournoy, Simmie embraced life with an unwavering spirit and genuine warmth that touched all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Willie Dubose and Willie Flournoy. Throughout his 83 years, he built a legacy of love and commitment that will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have shared in his journey.

Simmie approached life with steadfast determination and integrity. His work-ethic, wisdom, gentle humor, and compassionate nature created a sense of comfort and belonging for family and friends alike. He possessed a remarkable ability to listen without judgment and offer guidance that came with experience and jokes that would make anyone laugh. One memorable line of his advice was "you better drive safely on those roads! They can't drive!" A man of faith who loved the Lord deeply, Simmie was also known for his straightforward honesty and wouldn't hesitate to cuss you out if he felt it was needed - a genuine balance of spiritual devotion and colorful authenticity that endeared him to all who knew him.

As we say goodbye to this extraordinary man, we celebrate the countless ways he enriched our lives through his presence, his stories, and his enduring love. The lessons he taught through both words and actions will remain with us always.

Simmie departed this life on April 11, 2025 at Corewell Health Hospital with his children, Keyetta and Korey by his side. Simmie leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond material possessions—a legacy of kindness, resilience, and unwavering character. His memory will be cherished by his ten children, Linda Flournoy, Alma Dickey, Alfred Flournoy, Darrell Flournoy, Anthony Flournoy, Yekisha Hall, Keyetta DuNomes (Leland), Korey Flournoy, Levis Flournoy, and Syreeta Flournoy, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, and all whose lives were touched by his generous spirit.

A Life Well Lived

In quiet moments, we feel you still, Your wisdom echoes, against our will. To say goodbye seems far too soon, for one whose love shone like the moon.

A father strong, with heart so true, who taught us all what love can do. Your laughter rings in memory's halls, your spirit answers when faith calls.

The road you walked with steadfast grace, has left its mark on time and space. Though tears may fall like gentle rain, your legacy will long remain.

Rest easy now, your work is done, the battle fought, the victory won. In God's embrace, find sweet release, dear father, find eternal peace.
