Obituaries

Shirley Marie Schneider was a loving daughter,sister,spouse, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She passed away on Saturday, July 26th, at the young age of 99. Shirley was a woman of great faith which was passed on from her parents and grandparents. Her grandfather, Vincent, belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #1546 in Bad Axe, MI, for 35 years and was an honorary member. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society. Her grandmother, Elizabeth, was a member of the women's guild at their church, St John the Evangelist, in Ubly, MI, where she was very active. Her parents, Mark and Sophia, were very active members of St Lawrence Catholic church in Utica, MI.

She married her husband Paul on August 21,1948. Paul, was one of the founding members of the Dr. Thomas A Dooley Council #5492, which moved to St Colette in 2002. He was also a member of the Order of Alhambra fraternal organization. Shirley actively participated with Paul at all of the charity events of these two organizations and was also an active member, and officer, of the Knights of Columbus ladies organization, the Dooleyettes.

In the early 60's, Shirley joined the workforce as the head bookkeeper for the Nardoni Cement Company, then, later, became Paul's bookkeeper when he started his own engraving business. When Paul and Shirley moved to Rose City, MI, they volunteered at Tolfree Hospital in West Branch. They moved to Florida where Paul died in 2001. Shirley moved back to Michigan to be near her children, grandchildren, and soon great grandchildren.

She could not sit still. She saw a need and took care of it. She was again volunteering at not one, but two different hospitals. She had a life long love of reading and voraciously read thousands of books. She also did crossword puzzle constantly. The daily newspaper ones were not enough for her, so she bought crossword puzzle books. When she moved to Villa Marie and gave up her car,she joined a rosary group and prayed the rosary daily, taking turns leading the rosary.

Shirley was the last and oldest of five siblings. Kendall (wife Nan), Pat (husband Herb), Mary Jane (husband Fred), and Mark (wife Gwen). She is survived by her sons Paul and wife Kathy, grandchildren Shaelyn (husband Eric) and Gabrielle. Mark and wife Laurie, grandchildren Samantha and great-granddaughter Gabriella, Nick (wife Dana) and great-grandchildren Aiden and Avery. Todd and wife Lisa and granddaughters Danielle and Renee. Cheryl (husband Bill), granddaughter Erika(husband Justin) and great granddaughters Arye and Remi, grandson Keith (wife Ellie) and great grandchildren Sawyer and Kolter, granddaughter Keri(husband TJ) and great grandchildren MacKenzie and Emersyn, granddaughter Kristin( husband David) and great grandchildren Harper and Dawson.

Internment to be held at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
