Obituary For Sheryl Lynn Vanzo

Sheryl Lynn Vanzo (née Jacquin) passed away at 69 in her Dearborn home on June 23rd, 2024.

Sherry was born on the 22nd of May 1955 in Dearborn MI to Donn and June (née Hacket) Jacquin. She grew up in Detroit, graduating from Henry Ford High School in 1973, and studied nursing at Wayne State University from 1973 - 1975. At age 64 she retired from the human resources department at Oakwood/Beaumont Health System with 40 years of service.

Sherry is predeceased by her parents, her husband Jon, and daughter Nicole. She is survived by her daughter Danielle (Nicholas Budimir) Vanzo, son Brent (Codi) Vanzo, grandson Logan James Vanzo, and her brother Donn (Jean) Jacquin.

Shortly after beginning a job at Mt. Carmel Hospital, she met Jon. They would go on to wed in 1976. They enjoyed many activities together such as camping and playing softball. She would become the mother of 3 children in 1980, 81, and 85. She was an amazing mother who organized every birthday and family outing, cooked every holiday meal, and gave so much love and support to her children throughout their lives.

Sherry had irrepressible energy, was fiercely independent yet gave so much of herself to her loved ones.

In her spare time, she could be seen running out to soak up the sun's rays (as soon as the temp was above 40° F). She loved attending or watching Detroit Tigers and Redwings games with friends, planting flowers, and tending to her beautiful yard, as well as decorating the house for any and all holidays. Sherry was thrilled in 2019 when she became Nonnie to her grandson Logan. She adored him and would spoil him at every opportunity.

While working for Oakwood her job centered around helping employees attain family and medical leave. Long after retiring and as recently as last month, she ran into people who thanked her for help with their maternity leave or time off for the loss of a loved one. She loved animals and gave to many pet and wildlife organizations.

In lieu of a funeral service, we will host a Friends and Family Gathering on Sunday, June 30th from 12 pm to 5 pm at our family home of 3538 Grindley Park St. Dearborn, MI 48124.

If you have sampled her amazing cooking, played euchre, watched a game, or enjoyed a beer with her, please stop by and share a story or two.
