Obituary For Robert Edward Knight

Robert Edward Knight was born May 24, 1949 and passed away June 3, 2020. He grew up in Redford, Michigan and after graduation, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as a military police officer. He raised his son and four daughters (and countless hunting dogs) in Detroit’s Brightmoor neighborhood. He could often be found running around Eliza Howell Park flushing pheasant, fox, and whatever other wildlife he could find. He made life-long friends working at Livonia Tackle and eating at Old Mexico. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and talk like they’d been friends for years. He told everyone who would listen about the trophy buck he bagged in 1989 and spent every hunting season since chasing the bigger buck that he claims roamed the farm in Tecumseh.

He loved being outdoors, especially spending time at the Spring Mill Pond. He could spend hours in his float tube, drifting in the middle of the lake. So many trophy bass, trout and who knows what else he pulled out of that water. He would tell stories of the kids whose day he made by letting them reel in the fish he had hooked. Some whose lives he saved when they got too far out into the deep water or tried to swim across the lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Dorothy “Margaret” Knight (nee McClarty) and stepmother Bernice Knight, his son Timothy, and siblings Bill Knight, Sue Dingus and Janet Aumend.

He is survived by his wife, Kim and daughters Amy Brent, Kelly (Frank) Kuca, Erin Knight and Lisa Knight; stepdaughter Lynne (Lyman) Erway and stepson Jeremiah (Amanda) Nostrant; grandchildren Philicia, Allison (Chad), Jayden, Falynn, Zoey, Morgan and Kyle; great-grandchildren Savannah and Kaiden; siblings Linda (Fred) Wright, Rick (Marilyn) Knight, Don (Sharon) Knight, Nancy Knight, Jim Knight, Judy (Dan Kluck) Harman, Jack (Frances) Knight and 60 nieces and nephews.

No services will be held at this time. A celebration of life is being planned for this summer.

I’ve finished life’s chores assigned to me, So put me on a boat headed out to sea. Please send along my fishing pole For I’ve been invited to the fishin’ hole.

Where every day is a day to fish, To fill your heart with every wish. Don’t worry, or feel sad for me, I’m fishin’ with the Master of the sea.

We will miss each other for awhile, But you will come and bring your smile. That won’t be long you will see, Till we’re together you and me.

To all of those that think of me, Be happy as I go out to sea. If others wonder why I’m missin’ Just tell ’em I’ve gone fishin’
