Obituary For Raymond Dennis Washburn

In Loving Memory

RAYMOND DENNIS WASHBURN

March 3, 1943 - December 9, 2023

Raymond was a devoted husband and father and a pillar of the community in which he lived and served. He passed away peacefully at the age of 80.

Raymond was born in Detroit, MI to Raymond J Washburn and Florence Rita (Hudson) Elliott.

He is now reunited with his loving wife, Arlene, to whom he was lovingly married to for 49 years.

He is survived by his son Raymond (Erica), his grandchildren - Justin (Samantha), Samantha, Sierra and Greyson. He also leaves behind his significant other, Loretta Turner, and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.

Raymond also shared a special bond with his cousin Andy (Cindy) Saarm as well as a close kinship with his dear friends, Jack Payment and Dave Clark. These friendships were cherished.

Raymond was extremely honored to serve the City of Sterling Heights and its citizens. He was proud of his 50 years of dedicated service to the city, leaving an indelible mark as the city's Code Enforcement Official and esteemed member of the Zoning Board of Appeals. Having been with the city since its' inception, he played a crucial role in the development of the community, contributing significantly to the vibrant landscape that is now seen and enjoyed by many.

In his younger years, Raymond found joy in his family - his wife Arlene and their son Ray. An avid hunter and enthusiast of outdoor sports and snowmobiling, he embraced the beauty of nature and shared these experiences with his family.

As the years passed, he took immense pride in witnessing the accomplishments of his eldest grandchild, Justin. They were very close and always had a strong bond and truly enjoyed each other's company in everything they did together. Later in life, his youngest grandchild, Greyson, was born to Ray and Erica and Raymond's heart swelled once again with pride.

Raymond loved spending time with his son Ray and his daughter in-law Erica, whom he always considered to be more than a daughter in-law but a true Daughter in every sense.

During the later years of his life, Raymond found renewed happiness with Loretta. Their love and companionship along with her incredible family brought him additional joy, adding a new layer of fulfillment to his life.

Raymond will be remembered for the love and warmth he shared with his family and friends as well as a lasting legacy of incredible work done with the City of Sterling Heights.

Grandfather, you have always been there for me, as far back as I can remember. I am grateful that we could share the amount of time together that we did, though it will never feel sufficient. Reflecting on it, all of my fondest memories are connected with you and Grandma. We didn't get a chance to enjoy the last dinner we had planned and set out on our Cheboygan trip, but I will forever treasure the memories of the trips we did take and the time we spent together. The void left by your absence is indescribable, and I will deeply miss you. Yet, I will hold dear every moment we shared. I love you, Gramps; you will always reside in my heart.

I was so happy to reconnect with you the last few years, Butch. You came to mean more to me than I could ever express. Your spirit and life embodied the best of the Washburn family. The humor and the heart of you was such a joy to experience. Rest in peace my dear cousin. Your memory will be cherished. Bunny.
