Obituary For MATILDA DOROTHEA HORNE

MATILDA DOROTHEA HORNE, was born November 2, 1929, in Youngstown, Ohio; the seventh child of 8 children, to the union of Rev. Henry Marshall Marbly, Sr. and Mayme Simpson Marbly.

After graduation from high school, she furthered her education by attending Philander Smith College (University), in Little Rock, Arkansas, for 4 years; graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Psychology.

While attending Philander, she met the love of her life, Curtis Horne, Sr., and married him that year after graduation. To that union she had four children Curtis Jr., Cynthia, Calvin, & Charles.

She was a stay at home mother and homemaker, and worked during Christmas season only, in helping her husband, to have a nicer Christmas holiday for the children.

She was a loving, caring, yet strict mother, nurturing and diligently teaching her children many life core values, of faith in Jesus Christ, of integrity, kindness and having compassion and caring for others, etc.

After the children were all adults: she enjoyed bowling; singing in two community choral groups, (Seraphic Renaissance Singers, also The Winstonaires), across the Detroit metropolitan area & sometimes out of town, singing old familiar hymns, spirituals, choral sheet music, and gospel music. She read music and could play the piano some.

She later was employed with IRS in downtown Detroit, as a federal data entry clerk, retiring at retirement age.

She taught her daughter Cynthia and youngest son Charles in singing and helped Charles learn the keyboard on the piano...

She was a generous-hearted, good, loving, always dedicated Mother, encouraging her children in their faith, (always being a listening ear, always ready to give good counsel), believing the ultimate focus for anyone's life: is Faith in GOD to carry you through.

Matilda once said to her daughter Cynthia: "Parents can give their children material things, and even love them, but if they didn't give them Jesus, they haven't done their best for them. For to raise a child without faith in God is an injustice to any child, because you haven't given them anything lasting."

Matilda embraced her role and assignment as a Mother in the full sense of the word.

A long life well-lived to the glory of GOD!

Matilda was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Leila McClendon, Verna Marbly Herrod, Inez Marbly, and her brothers Wendell P. Marbly, Corwin B. Marbly, Henry M. Marbly, Jr., Everett Marbly; and her beloved son Henry Calvin Horne, cousins Marshall Marbly, Bennie Marbly, and Doris Williams.

She leaves to mourn her son Curtis Jr. her daughter Cynthia, and her son Charles, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
