Judith “Judy” Ann DeLongchamp (Hurley) of Livonia passed away December 24, 2022 at the age of 64. Survived by her daughter, Erin (Daniel) Jarrait, three grandchildren, Joslynn, Ella and Jonathan, and three brothers, Terrance (Nancy) Hurley, Michael (Laura) Hurley and Mark (Donna) Hurley. Judy was predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Lorraine Hurley.
Judy grew up in Redford Twp, Michigan and graduated from Bishop Borgess High School in 1976. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with high honors from Davenport University in 2006.
Judy proudly devoted her career to federal civil service at U.S. Army TACOM. After beginning her tenure on her 25th birthday as an entry-level secretary, Judy soon began on an upward career trajectory that spanned over three decades. In her last 15 years alone, Judy received 24 awards, two promotions, and held four progressively responsible positions: Resource Management Analyst, Business Management Specialist, Program Analyst and Supervisory Management Analyst, a position she held from 2005 until her retirement in 2016. In this role, she served as an advisor to the Assistant Chief of Staff of Resource Management, oversaw the financial management of several TACOM staff offices, provided leadership, executive advice, direction, assistance and support for all operations and activities of the Resource Management Department in addition to carrying out many HR and training functions. Judy is known by her former colleagues to have been the consummate professional, well-liked and well-respected, kind and helpful, a caring and supportive leader in the office, one of the best bosses they’ve worked for and to have been not only a boss, but also a friend.
Perhaps the job title Judy was most proud of, however, was Grandma. “Grandma Judy” left an indelible mark on the lives of her grandchildren, spending quality time with them and teaching them both recipes for food and recipes for life. She helped them to believe in themselves and their ability to accomplish their goals while providing them a soft place to land at times when it was needed.
Judy was a member of Woodside Bible Church and served as a volunteer in the Special Needs Ministry. She enjoyed volunteering and was especially passionate about serving those with special needs. She also served for many years at TACOM’s annual event for special needs children and adults in the community.
On Judy’s behalf, the family would like to express their gratitude to the staff members of Aspen Assisted Living, St. Mary Mercy Hospital Livonia and The Medical Team Hospice for the care and love they have given Judy.
Memorial service to be held Friday, January 13, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at 2|42 Community Church Taylor Campus, 24800 Eureka Rd in Taylor. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Judy’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Michigan Chapter at www.alz.org/gmc.
