A Life Beautifully Lived
In Loving Memory of Hazel Young (Turner)
April 16, 1959 – September 28, 2026
Hazel Young (Turner) was born on April 16, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Wilbur Wright and Mable Young. On September 28, 2026, Hazel departed this earthly life, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories.
Following the passing of her mother, Hazel moved in with her older sister, Johnnie Gee Barnett, at the tender age of 14. Johnnie lovingly raised her alongside her children, Yvonne (Bonnie), Sheila, Wayne, Robert (Butch), and Ken, who became more like siblings than nieces and nephews. Hazel devoted her life to Christ at a young age and found comfort and strength in reading her Bible.
Hazel attended Detroit Public Schools and proudly graduated from Murray-Wright High School in 1977. She later attended Wayne County Community College, where she pursued a career in nursing before realizing that her true calling lay elsewhere. A hardworking and independent woman, Hazel worked at the Barclay Inn for ten years. She also worked alongside her older brother, Percy Young, at Young’s Transportation, where she enjoyed driving and helping others. With a strong entrepreneurial drive, Hazel and her longtime companion, Robert Washington, established their own business, R & H Unlimited. She also became the proud owner of several investment properties, reflecting her ambition, determination, and independence.
Hazel enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, including listening to music, visiting the casino, playing the lottery, and going out to eat with her dear friends Wonzell and Sharon. She especially loved talking on the phone, checking on loved ones, sharing stories, and enjoying laughter-filled conversations.
Above all, Hazel’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved unconditionally and stood beside her loved ones through life’s ups and downs. Whether they were right or wrong, they always knew they could count on her love, support, and guidance. Her presence, wisdom, and the countless memories she created will forever be treasured.
Hazel leaves to cherish her memory her two loving daughters, Chareka Young (Anthony) and Shatyra Robinson (Ramon); six beloved grandchildren, De’Janay, Jordan, Jace, Demetrius, Ramon Jr., and Rayven; her beloved nieces, Yvonne (Bonnie), Sheila, and Yolanda; her beloved nephews, Melvin and David; her favorite great-niece, Kenyetta (KeeKee), who held a special place in her heart; her longtime friends, Tonya, Wanda, Wonzell, and Sharon; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Wilbur Wright Jr. and Mable Young; her longtime companion, Robert Washington; her six siblings, Johnnie Gee Barnett, Murphy J. Young, Wilbur Young, Percy Young, Willie Young, and Lavernia Williams; her beloved nephews, Robert (Butch), Ken, and Wayne; and her dear friend Essie.
Although Hazel’s earthly journey has ended, her love and legacy will live on through the family she cherished. Her voice, laughter, advice, and unforgettable phone calls will be deeply missed.
A mother’s love never truly leaves us. It lives on in the hearts of her children, the memories of her grandchildren, and the lives of everyone she touched.
Her life was a blessing, her love was a gift, and her memory will forever be our treasure.
