Obituary For Elma Carol Harvey

Due to unforeseen circumstances Carol's family has decided to keep the service in person only. We sincerely apologize for the last minute change and any disappointment.

E. Carol Harvey(Dickerson), of Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully in her room at Bronson Commons Nursing home on Thursday July 20, 2023 in Mattawan, MI. She was born to parents Donald and Norma Dickerson in Hazel Park, Michigan on November 29, 1942. Carol had an outgoing personality and she enjoyed time spent at Covenant Community Church. She went to Eastern Michigan University to become an English teacher, where she met Russell Harvey from Jackson, MI. They were married June 26th, 1965. Carol & Russ moved to Boyne City and raised Kerry, Keith, Kristin, and Kurt. Carol’s passing is not a tragedy. She is happy and at peace—hers has been a life well lived. She didn’t have an easy life, but she carried herself with intention. She found her meaning by bringing joy to and thus improving the lives of not just her family, but everyone she came into contact with. Carol faced many hardships in her life but she took them in stride and always came through smiling. She has been a wonderful role model for her children and grandchildren. Family was the most important thing to Carol and she carried great pride sharing pictures and stories with anyone that would listen during her years at Bronson Commons. She valued family time and holiday gatherings more than anything else. Carol also loved to listen to and share her love for Elvis! Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Donald & Norma (Allen) Dickerson, and her sister Joan Rose Dickerson. Carol leaves behind many people who loved her very much. Her children, Kerry (John) Tapper, Keith (Christianna) Harvey, Kristin (Walter) Risbeck, Kurt (Kathryn) Harvey. Her grandchildren Michelina Risbeck, Samantha (Ricky) Joynt, Alexandria Risbeck, Charlie Tapper, Joseph “JP” Harvey, Maverick Risbeck, Zachary Risbeck, Jackie Tapper, Maggie Harvey, Tasha Harvey, Jaden Harvey. Her great grandchildren, Caroline Joynt and Penelope Joynt. Her very dear cousin, Carol Dickerson-West. Her beloved friends Nita Cox & Linda Willing. Carol also leaves behind many dear friends among the staff & residents of Bronson Commons, her extended family for the last 12 years of her life. Many staff & Residents shared they will miss her Sunbeam energy and Smile.

There will be a memorial service for Carol on Sunday, Sept 3rd at Fisher Funeral Home 24501 Five Mile Rd, Redford Charter Twp, MI 48239. Doors open at 12:30pm, services start at 1pm.

Celebration of Life will follow 3-10pm at Kurt & Kathy Harvey’s 18430 Fairway Dr Detroit, MI 48221.
