Obituary For Edith Lynn Mitchell

MITCHELL, Edith L. - age 65, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 3, 2022 at her home in Romulus, MI. The youngest daughter of the late Ralph A. and Hazel R. (Tennant) Mitchell, Edith was born on February 2, 1957, in Flint. Edith graduated from Kearsley High School in 1975, and on September 1, 1977, began working for General Motors, Flint, eventually retiring at the Romulus plant on March 1, 2016, with 39 years of successful service. She was a faithful member of her local union, Local 163, and appreciated her co-workers and their friendship.

In her grade school years, Edith loved being a Girl Scout with Troop 600 in the Kearsley school district and her family were proud of her accomplishments with her troop.

In her post high school years, she served her community as a volunteer with the Kearsley Rescue Squad and helped many folks over the years.

Edith regularly enjoyed playing Bingo, the lottery and had a heart for stray animals. Her home companion was a stray cat named Tipper, whom she rescued, nursed, and pampered. Edith loved the children in the area, and many called her Grandma. She could be seen frequently purchasing backpacks filled with school items for children in need.

She was preceded in death by her niece, Jennifer Marie Mitchell, and survived by her three older siblings, Larry and Donna Mitchell of Richmond, Kentucky, Laura (Mitchell) and Brian McGovern of Flint, Michigan, and Ruth (Mitchell) and Rockland Lasley, also from Flint; numerous nieces and nephews. Her sisters lovingly nicknamed her Edie-Bum and throughout her remaining years she was loved dearly by her entire family.

At her request, a private family only visitation has already taken place and Edith’s cremains will be placed at the family plot in Northern Michigan this coming summer.

If you wish to contribute to her memory, a gift in her name to your local animal shelter would be a fitting way to honor our beloved sister, Edith.
