Davene was educated by the Detroit Public School system. She furthered her education in the medical field and had a successful 25 year career at Dr. Quincy A Johnson's medical office. Davene married the late Haywood Holmes but the love of her life was her son Dwight Anthony Holmes.

Davene went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. She had a zest for life and strived for the better things in life, not only for herself but for her entire family. To my sister Davene, Missing you is only the beginning of my pain, yet the strong bond we hold together, shall forever remain. Although my heart is heavy, I know that prayer will lighten my load, because God has already paved a way for us somewhere down the road. Should you hear my lonely cries, in the still of the night, will you dry my eyes with the sweet memories of you, until I see the morning light. I shall never hear you speak again, yet I know that the words are there. Since time has allowed you to slip away from me, we only have these precious moments to share. Once held together by love, we are now separated by God's decision to call you home. But are we ever ready to make that transition, or do we fear of walking alone? I know that you are now God's angel and he has your soul to keep. Yet I will always have your unconditional love, stored in our hearts so deep. As you walk that holy land, that we're so sure you'll adore, I'll take each step with you because that's what sisters are for. May the purist of raindrops wash away my remaining pain, and may my broken heart soon mend until we see each other again. Sister, whenever you feel I've strayed away, just glance down through the clouds. I'll feel your eyes upon me and make my sister proud. Even through God has reserved your sweet soul let it be known that you left this earth with a heart of Gold. Love Forever, Your sister Lynn Written by Rita Burnett
