Barbara Ann (Gebis) Trammell was born to the late Joseph Gebis and Pearl Gratz, a postal clerk and homemaker, on October 13, 1947, in Trenton, Michigan. She was baptized at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Detroit, MI on November 9, 1947, and raised in a Catholic home. Barbara graduated from Western High School in Detroit, MI in 1965, and she found her own way in faith when she left her parents’ home.
She volunteered her time and resources to helping those in need her entire adult life and encouraged others to serve in the same way. Barbara worked in the service industry before completing an Associate degree from Wayne County Community College in 1983. She later worked for the Detroit Public Schools for several years before accepting a position with the United States Postal Service in 1989. She retired from the Redford Post Office in 2009 after a 20-year career as a postal employee.
She married her best friend, Thomas Trammell, Jr., in 1994 and they enjoyed many years of love and laughter together. In 2009, she moved to Merrillville, IN to be close to her daughter living in Chicago at the time. Barbara moved back to Michigan in 2014 and spent most of her time enjoying her favorite things including crocheting, baking, playing bingo, and being “Grammy”.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 28 years, Thomas Trammell, Jr.; daughter Lisa P. Campbell (David), grandchildren Ian M.R. Campbell, Eyris Campbell, and England Campbell; sister Pauline Martin, brothers Joseph Gebis, Jr. and Gary Gebis, a host of nieces and nephews, and friends
