Barbara was born July 2nd, 1959, to Easter and Henry Johnson Sr. at Burton Mercy Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. She was a lifelong resident of Detroit. Barbara was the youngest of the family with two older brothers, Henry known as Junior and Percy known as Percy D. At the age of 64 years old Barbara departed her earthly home on April 2nd, 2024, at The Henry Ford Hospital. Her mother Easter, father Henry Sr, and brother Percy preceded her in death.
Her educational journey included Davison Elementary, followed by Cleveland Junior High, and culminated at Osborn High School.
She was a former employee of Horizon Industrials and American Eagle. Her occupation was an auto parts inspector. She spent several years working at each company, developing lasting friendships that have endured through years.
Barbara is an avid movie watcher. She has a passion for classic, suspense and spine-chilling movies and television series. Though she playfully admits to a preference for watching scary movies in the daytime only. She has been known to be a competitive Spade’s player, where she’d challenge anyone brave enough to play against her. She loved to give her opponent a personal lesson in the game of how to be a gracious loser.
Her favorite restaurant is the Olive Garden. If you want to make her happy or get in her good graces take her to the Olive Garden and order her a salad, chicken Alfredo, and bread sticks. And she would be a happy camper with the biggest smile.
It didn’t take much to make Barbara happy. Contentment filled her if she was encircled by loved ones, watching her preferred show on television, or engrossed in her favorite mobile game. She was happy with the simplest things in life.
Barbara was known to her family and friends by many affectionate names, Mama, Mom, Grandma, Granny, Barbara Ann, My lil Sister, Auntie Barbara, Auntie, Barbalou, Mother-In-Law and Barb,
She also played the roles of sister, mother, and grandmother within her community, offering guidance, warm embraces, or even a stern reprimand, when necessary, to those beyond her immediate family. But the names I know that tugged at her heart the most were her first four names. Barbara loved being a mother to her four children, Son-In-Law, and Daughter- In-Law (Jujuana, Jujuan, Darnell, Davon, Les, and Shanell) her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her Facebook page showed her pride in her many Facebook postings of her family.
Barbara’s faith played a significant role in her life. One Facebook post from January 23rd beautifully captured her devotion:
I am Praising Jesus Today
He is-my Lord, My Redeemer
The One who fights for me. The
One who intercedes for me My
Savior, My Provider the One
Who died to give me life! If You
Love God and are not ashamed.
Of him, declare Amen.
As believers we believe in his promise, that she is at rest in his loving arms.
