Obituary For Balrajah K. Powdhar

Balrajah Kishore Powdhar, 61, died peacefully on June 29th, 2019 at his home in Ypsilanti. Son of Basso and McDonald (born January 3,1958) is survived by his siblings Shirley, Merley, Prem, Rajan, Christendath, Vidia and Ann; his beloved Cheryl; children Brandon (Jackie), Daryl (Kasey), Ana-Lisia, Ariel, and grandson Nikola. Throughout his life, Balrajah was a man of family, duty, and generosity. Balrajah spent his childhood exploring and enjoying his surroundings on his home island of Trinidad. As a child he was adventurous and spirited. He obtained a love for nature, animals, and tinkering that was influenced by the island. He spoke fondly of his childhood memories with his siblings. He started his career as a mechanic at the early age of 13. Balrajah moved to Michigan in June 1989 and continued his mechanic career. His love of tinkering steered his career from automotive to plumbing, carpentry, home and building repairs and design, and metal work. Balrajah will be remembered as the one person that would always be willing to lend a hand when needed and he truly enjoyed fixing things to make someone happy. Balrajah spent his days with his best friend, and love of his life, Cheryl. He always considered himself the luckiest man in the world when he was around her. Together they were parents to his four children and many pets for over 15 years. He was especially proud of his four children and first grandson. Balrajah shared his love of nature, animals and tinkering with each of his children. He spoke fondly of times when he was able to teach his children about cars, flowers, repairs and design, and caring for animals. He spent the last two months of his life enjoying time with his first grandson, Nikola. Balrajah will be remembered as a kind, forgiving, helpful, self-sacrificing, and generous man to everyone he had the pleasure of knowing. He lived his life helping others and always seemed happiest when he could make a positive difference in somebody’s life. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him, especially Cheryl, his children, and his grandson.

Condolences

Balrajah insisted we call him "Powdhar" which he said was easier for most people to remember. We met 16 years ago when he started to work for me in Ann Arbor doing excellent work of most any kind. The work mode was quickly replaced by being "family" and helping each other thru the vicissitudes of work and life. He will be greatly missed by myself, my wife, Hashen, and our twin 9 year olds who met him many times. May "the Universe" speed his integration into the next dimension.
