Anna Lee Wilson was born April 27, 1926 to the union of the late George and Clara Richardson in Detroit, Michigan. She was the second oldest of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Yourye Wilson; two brothers, George and Everett; one sister Carolyn; and seven children, Ralph “Pee Wee,” Carl “Tiny,” Danny “Dan the Man,” Craig “Mizze,” Gerald “JJ,” Diane and Darius “Dollbaby.”
Anna dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. She attended New Liberty Apostolic Faith Church, and on June 14, 1941, she was united in holy matrimony to Yourye Wilson. To this union, nine children were born. Shortly after their union, they purchased their first home on June 30, 1950, becoming one of the original families on 8 Mile and Mendota.
Anna Lee, being a gift from God, dedicated her life to caring and providing for others. She was one of the many mothers of 8 mile. Not only the mother of 9 children and grandmother to dozens of grandchildren, she helped raise, house, and feed many others along the way. Known for her famous “Grape kool-aid” and being the life of the party with her dance moves,' her doors were always open to anyone who needed a place to stay, a bite to eat, or a shoulder to cry on; she always made herself available to everyone in need. A true woman of God, she read her bible faithfully every morning and kneeled in prayer every night. Anna was really a true blessing to everyone she encountered and she captured many hearts. Her legacy is one that can NEVER be replaced and Mama Wilson’s memory will forever be cherished.
She leaves to forever cherish her loving memory two children: Glenn “Sweetmeat” (Angela) Wilson and Carolyn “Coco” (Steven) Brown; one sister, Mae Evelyn Richardson; one sister-in-law, Julia Mae Wilson; one special cousin, Alvetter Turner; God Daughter, Cheryl Foxhall; 25 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren; sons from another mother, Thomas Collins and Dwayne Lockman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandkids from 8 mile
