Obituary for Anna Aghababian

Anna Aghababian was born to Nishan and Mary Aghababian at home in Detroit, Michigan on September 20, 1932. She went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2022. The family, including her older brother Sarkis (Sam) and younger brother John moved to several different homes in Detroit then settled into the home on Hemingway in Redford in 1957. Sarkis, a WWII veteran, had already married Margaret (Marge) Kenosian in 1954 and had eventually moved into a home nearby. John joined the Army shortly after moving to Redford, then married Ruth Cranga in 1960. Anna chose not to marry. She enjoyed a life of hobbies and travel. She knitted, crocheted, painted and fished. She traveled to Israel and the Middle East, through Europe and Central and South America. Some trips were on her own and others were with groups including several mission trips through various organizations. Anna loved camping and when she could, she would commandeer her niece or one of her nephews to go along with her. One travel highlight was driving her motor home to Alaska and back at the age of 74. She made this trip with a 90 year old companion. It wasn’t until 3 days into the trip that Anna found out that her friend had no intention of driving.

Anna loved attending Covenant Community Church in Redford, Michigan. She was an active member of Singles Offering Love to Others (S.O.L.O.’s) of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Anna also supported many charities in Michigan, across the USA and Internationally.

Anna worked at Detroit Credit Union and then Wayne, Out County, Teachers Credit Union both for over 20 years. For a time she was also on the board of Directors at WOCTCU. She retired in 1991 and had been enjoying life on her own terms ever since.

I met Anna in 1973 or four when she came with a group to Venezuela where I was a missionary. Evelyn Crabtree was with the group and the two of them invited me to come to Michigan when I came home. I went up to visit and a friendship of almost 50 years developed. The three of us went camping in the Smokies, in the Everglades, and in the upper peninsula. She was a wonderful friend and she'll be greatly missed.
