
Aldred DeWayne Peterson, 62, of Indian River, Michigan, passed away on April 8, 2026. He was born on August 11, 1963.
Those who knew him as DeWayne knew a man who made his home in Indian River and spent much of his life in northern Michigan, surrounded by family, friends, and the community he loved.
He is survived by his three children: Kayla Peterson and her spouse Ben Skeel, Linda Peterson and her spouse Kyle Greenier, and DJ Peterson and his spouse Heather (Daoust) Peterson, all of Petoskey. He was a proud grandfather to Everett Green, Bayli Peterson, and Dayvid Peterson.
DeWayne is also survived by his best friend, Paul Cooper of Petoskey, as well as his siblings: Marvel Peterson, Michael Peterson, Michael Anderson and his spouse Carol Miles, Denise Bunker, Tony Peterson and his spouse Shannon Peterson, Patricia Peterson, and Marlene Peterson. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his longtime girlfriend, Sandy Short.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvert and Murtle Peterson of Onaway; his sister, Daisy Brasseur; and his nephew, Vincent Brasseur.
DeWayne was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and rarely missed a game. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life—especially a cold Budweiser, good company, and a well-known appreciation for marijuana. Those who knew him best can smile knowing that somewhere, he’s still reminding everyone to pass the bowl.
He will be remembered for his love of family, his friendships, and his ability to enjoy life in his own way.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
