Mary M. McKinney was born on September 21, 1934 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to the union of Phenois and Lena Jackson. (Both parents preceded her in death). Mary accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior as a child. Mary moved to Detroit, Michigan where she married the love of her life in 1959 to Robert Joe McKinney (preceded her in death). Before the passing of her husband they celebrated 46 years of marriage and had two children Harold and DeAngela Marie.

Mary was a housewife and homemaker that enjoyed taking care of her family. Her hobbies were sewing, DIY projects, organizing and cooking. She was passionate about learning more of God and volunteered her time at church where she served on the deaconess board and other auxiliaries at Detroit Northwest Seventh-day Adventist church. This is where she met friends Lynell Robinson, Connie Elerbe-Maycock and many others that hold a special place in her heart.

Mary’s belief in God was her foundation and strength throughout her life. During her final days she was surrounded by family and friends attending social gatherings and family outings.

Mary made her peaceful transition on May 15, 2019 with her devoted niece Uvenia McKinney by her side. Uvenia served as her liaison and provided twenty four hour care to ease the pain of her failing health. Mary leaves to cherish her memory; two children: son, Harold; daughter, DeAngela Marie; grandson, Harold Joseph; granddaughter, Alexandria Victoria; sister-in-law: Sarah Gamble (Fred) preceded her in death; sister-in-law: Carol Shorter (Kenneth) preceded her in death; Her brother and sister-in-law: (Arnold and Charlotte McKinney) both preceded her in death; Father and mother-in-law (Frank and Connice McKinney) both preceded her in death; a host of nieces, great-nieces, great great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great great-nephews, cousins and friends
